BAHIA JIQUILISCO
A must stop here!!! At 13º06’77N/88º27’65W, (keep in mind it's been years since we have been there so way point may have changed through weather conditions) wait here and call the Barilles Marina on the VHF # 16. They will send you a panga to guide you in. Stay away from the brakers and don’t worry about the entrance, there is a safe passage. Some boats we know went into Bahia del Sol. We bypassed it, the entrance is very hazardous and some boats got stuck in there for 10 days do to high swells breaking into the entrance, it also is only a resort. The Barilles Marina although is worth the stop. The marina is very safe, you can leave the boat and explore this beautiful country. If you like a tour, I would recommend Alberto and Alexandra, we did an incredible helicopter tour and a climb up the volcano. Juan Writes the owner of the
Marina is a very generous guy and will make your stay an unforgettable one. Ask the guard to take you on the monkey walk to the family in the jungle (bring some food, clothes etc.).
Shopping can be done in Usulutan, there is a Van at the
Marina that will take you there. Conejo is a wonderful Grocery store, just like in the US. The local produce market it worth a trip.

From here on, keep an eye on the weather. Listen to Willie’s net at 7083 lower side band ham at
13:00 Zulu, he’s pretty accurate. Hug the coast when Papagallos are blowing.
We bypassed
Nicaragua, we had such a great sail, finally, that we decided to head on. We were one mile off shore all the way, had 25 knots of Papagallos blowing, but didn’t get much of a fetch. Our buddy boat stayed four miles off and had a miserable ride.
